Based on their construction, foundries occupy large areas, represent a major heat source, and operate with open doors. This type of facility represents an irresistible attraction for pigeons and their nests.

OvoControl P at a Foundry

Pigeons represent a perennial pest problem at foundries and metal processing plants. In addition to slip and fall hazards, bird droppings contaminate sensitive equipment which results in more frequent and costly maintenance cycles. Many facilities have experimented with conventional abatement techniques but none have any lasting effect.

OvoControl® P, birth control for birds, has helped hundreds of different plants drive down pigeon numbers. The technology lends itself ideally to large areas where exclusion systems may be cost-prohibitive or impractical. Foundries have all the attributes for a successful OvoControl® P program – wide open spaces, lots of geography, heat production, and protection from predators — a highly attractive site for pigeons.

With proper use of the OvoControl® P program, foundries can ultimately expect the pigeon population reduced by 90 to 95%. As long as the program is continued, the population will continue to decrease at a rate of 50%, annually.
